We Exist

The project documents the stories of Trans and Queer skaters, celebrating their resilience, creativity, and contributions to skateboarding culture. Historically dominated by cis white men, skateboarding culture has often been exclusive, with marginalised groups facing significant barriers. Over time, we have reclaimed space, formed our own communities, and driven meaningful change. The skatepark, as a physical and social space, has become a crucial environment for fostering connection and creativity, while the underground punk and hardcore scene also plays a huge role in shaping skate culture. By sharing the unique perspectives and experiences of my fellow Trans and Queer skaters, this project aims to inspire, motivate, and challenge stereotypes. It highlights their distinct skills and creativity, breaking down preconceived notions of who can be a skater and fostering a more inclusive and accepting skate culture.

One of the images from this project was shortlisted for the prestigious Portrait of Britain Awards and will be published in Volume 8 book — a recognition that underscores its impact and the importance of queer representation in skate culture.
